The beach week packing list
A week by the water in one bag: sun, sand, and the evenings out.
A beach week needs less than it seems. Most days run on a swimsuit and something to throw over it. Pack for the sun, the sand, and two or three evenings out.
For the beach
- Two swimsuits, so one can dry
- A cover-up or a light long-sleeve shirt for midday sun
- Hat and sunglasses
- Sunscreen, and reef-safe sunscreen where the beach asks for it
- Sandals or water shoes, and a bag that can get sandy
- A quick-dry towel, if the place you are staying does not provide beach towels
For the evenings
- Two or three outfits that work for dinner out
- One pair of shoes that are not sandals
- A light layer, since evenings by the water get cool and windy
Easy to forget
- After-sun lotion or aloe
- A waterproof pouch for your phone
- A zip bag for wet swimsuits on the last day
- Insect repellent for evenings outside
Check before you go
Some beaches have rules on umbrellas, coolers, glass, or dogs, and some charge for parking or entry. Check the beach or park's own page for the days you plan to go.
Put it into practice
Choose warm weather in the planner, and the packing list adds sun gear and sizes clothes to your stay. Pick an indoor interest too, and the plan offers a rain swap for outdoor days.
