The business trip packing list
One bag, outfits that work together, and everything you need to arrive ready for the first meeting.
A business trip leaves little room for a mistake. You land, and the first meeting comes soon after. The goal is a bag that comes out of the overhead bin ready to wear, with everything the work needs inside it.
Clothes that work together
- One outfit for each meeting day, built from pieces that mix: a jacket, two or three tops, and one or two pairs of pants or skirts
- One spare top, in case of a spill
- Fabrics that resist wrinkles, unless your hotel has an iron or steamer. Check before you pack one.
- One pair of dress shoes you have already walked in
- Sleepwear, and workout clothes if the hotel has a gym
- The outfit for your first meeting in your carry-on, if you check a bag
For the work
- Laptop, charger, and a second charging cable
- Presentations and documents saved on the laptop, not only online, in case the venue's Wi-Fi fails
- Meeting addresses and contact numbers, saved offline
- A notebook, two pens, and business cards if you use them
- Headphones for calls
- A power bank, and a plug adapter if you cross a border
- A folder for paper receipts, plus a photo of each one. Check your company's expense policy for what it needs.
Toiletries and batteries
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) limits liquids in carry-on bags to containers of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less, packed in a quart-sized bag. Read the TSA's liquids rule. Many hotels supply basics, so check yours before you pack full-size bottles.
TSA also says portable chargers and power banks with a lithium ion battery must go in carry-on bags, not checked bags. Read the TSA's power bank page. We checked both pages in October 2026.
The night before
Charge every device, check in online, save your boarding pass, and confirm how you get from the airport to your first meeting. Confirm the dress code and the address of each meeting with your host. For packing a week in one bag, see our carry-on packing list.
Put it into practice
Tick Carry-on only in the planner, and the list keeps the clothing counts small enough for one bag. Add each meeting under Already set, and the request the planner writes for your artificial intelligence (AI) assistant plans around them.
